Simple Laundry StepsSimple Laundry Steps

Everyone wants to get the best results from their washing and to help you do this we've put together a list of simple steps.

Unloading & Drying

When the wash cycle has finished, the garments should be removed and dried as soon as possible. Leaving clothes damp can lead to problems such as bad smells or even mildew.

Pros and cons of tumble drying:
Tumble driers provide fast drying of your laundry but repeated uses of tumble driers can accelerate damages to your clothes due to the abrasion between fabrics whilst tumbling.
Tumble drying will tend to make fabrics softer and easier to iron by reducing the amount of crease, but will also reduce the perfume intensity on fabrics by evaoporating some/all the perfume deposited on your laundry.

Drying on a line (outdoors or indoors) prevents abrasion from tumble drying, ensures most of the perfume remains on fabrics, and when washed with Bold, fabrics are also softer.
Drying on a radiator often makes laundry feel harsh, so whenever possible we would recommend that you avoid drying laundry this way.

Drying hints:

  • Using proper drying procedures protects fabrics and minimises creasing. Most tumble dryers have delicate or permanent press cycles, which have lower heat settings to protect fabrics which might be damaged by high heat.
  • Check garment labels carefully for proper drying temperatures.
  • Remove clothing from the dryer as soon as the cycle ends. Hang or fold immediately to help minimise creasing.
  • Load your dryer so clothes can circulate. Over-loading can result in excessive creasing. Heat damage to clothing can also occur, if the dryer vent becomes blocked.

Another good laundry habit is to wipe the inside of the machine after use and even leave the door open for a while, to allow the inside of the machine to dry out. This will help to prevent bad smells and mildew forming in the machine.
